Many years ago I wanted to buy a small boat for fishing, camping, and just exploring the waterways.  My problem was the cost was more than I was able to afford, so I decided to design and build my own.  The boat I ended up with looked a lot like a Kayak, but had the room of a canoe. Therefore I decided to call it a Kano-Yak.

I really enjoyed my Kano-Yak whenever I was able to use it, but I was spending a lot of my fishing time in the parking lot explaining how I build it to many small boat admirers. That was when I decided to design the frame kit in such a way that any adult and child 11 and over, would be able to enjoy building this boat and using it together.

There are many boat kits available, most take a lot of time to build and are costly to buy, and more times than not they never do finish them. Often time just building diagrams cost more than the Kano-Yak Frame Kit. Even though it can be built and in the water less than 25 work hours, the Kano-Yak is a great winter project with a lot of spring rewards.

A group of Boy Scouts built 7 Kano-Yaks. One particular scout attended meetings regularly for 3 years. He was quiet and stayed on the sideline most of the time. When construction of the Kano-Yaks started, he was always a couple of steps ahead of the rest of the boys. Soon all the other boys were asking him for his help and advice. I was told you could see his confidence blossoming. Building this boat changed his life forever.

WHEN YOU’RE BUILDING A KANO-YAK YOU’RE NOT JUST BUILDING A BOAT YOUR BUILDING A RELATIONSHIP, MEMORIES, CONFIDENCE

I’ve seen, talked with, and received letters from fathers and sons or just friends that have build or rebuild relationships using this boat as the catalyst. My goal is to bring people together by building this boat in a short amount of time, float it and develop a long term memory
